2020 Austin Addy Awards

E1bBQwlA.png

The 2020 Addy Awards brought the glamor, glitz and indulgence of Las Vegas into Austin for the night. Stunning showgirls wowed guests at the doors of The Line Hotel, while an Elvis impersonator strolled the event greeting and snapping photos with guests. There was certainly a heightened energy of excitement this year with eagerness to connect, celebrate and have a night to remember, it was truly an incredible occasion!

Guests were excited to be some of the first to try the very new Ranch Rider Spirits, super cool libations in a can! With drinks in hand, guests viewed the nominated submissions on large panel displays, printed by API, and installed by Xtreme Xhibits. Good food at any event is a must, thank you to the The Line team for serving up delicious bites. Texas Poker Supply provided guests with all the thrill of gambling but no risk of losing with their Blackjack, Roulette and Craps casino tables. Those seeking a different type of rush made their way to the decadent candy bar and filled their favor bags to the brim with gumballs, jellybeans, chocolate, gummy bears and so much more sweets. If guests were still looking for more, they could relax with an express massage or simply sit back and enjoy the show!

The photo ops were a main attraction as attendees commemorated the evening; a major thanks to PhotoHouse Films for always creating a fun, event branded photobooth experience. And it wouldn’t be a party without great music! DJ Cass&ra turned up the party vibes with Vegas inspired music and had guests dancing the night away! The night seriously just kept getting better, our generous sponsors Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Ranch Rider Spirits and Q1 Media raffled off gifts to six lucky attendees. What an incredible evening!

The Q1 Media team knocked it out of the park in a major way, thinking of every little detail and bringing the thoughtfulness to life. Congratulations to their team on a most successful event!

Thank you to all the incredible vendors, sponsors and partners that helped create the 2020 Austin Addy Awards, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Allred, Allred, Allred: An Austin Wedding in the Heart of Downtown

Allred-1.jpeg

When Annelies and Ryan Allred began imagining their dream wedding, they pictured it happening in Austin. While the couple hails from San Francisco, Austin has always held a special place in their hearts, and they knew the central location would be the perfect spot to connect friends and family from across the country.

Brazos Hall was the ideal venue—close to the Line Hotel where most guests were staying and right in the heart of Austin’s downtown. And it offered generous space for long tables and dancing, a key part of the celebration. Rentals and lounge seating from Marque Rentals and Birch and Brass created lots of comfortable spots for guests to chat, relax, and mingle.

Allred-3.jpeg
Allred-6.jpeg

As guests arrived on the warm summer evening in June, they were greeted with cold Topo Chico and Aperol Spritzes—a colorful drink that was part of the red details throughout, chosen to honor the groom’s nickname Todos Rojas (a play on his last name of Allred).

One of the most stunning parts of the event was an elaborate custom floral chandelier with hundreds of Edison bulbs and blossoms, created by Posey Floral and ILD Lighting to illuminate the dance floor below. After Terra Vista Strings provided the music for the ceremony, Sauce the Band filled the dance floor with a mix of old and new soul, funk and Motown favorites. A photo booth from PhotoHouse Films gave guests an added souvenir and added to the amazing pics taken by professional photographer Sophie Epton.

Dinner from Contigo Catering kicked off with the most indulgent cheese board you’ve ever seen, followed by delicious family-style courses served and shared around the long tables. At the end of the evening, breakfast taquitos from Whataburger and cold brew boosted guests’ energy levels before everyone departed for an after-party at Handle Bar. As the bride and groom rode off in an Austin PediCab to start their year-long honeymoon adventure traveling around the world, we knew this was a wedding we wouldn’t soon forget!

Easton Made 2019

1.jpg

It was a beautiful, sunny, November afternoon, a perfect day for the 2nd annual Easton Made! Easton Made is a fun occasion bringing neighbors, friends and future neighbors together in an outdoor experience to kick off the holiday season and support local makers.

Guests strolled the street and lovely new amenity center, shopping local vendors, indulging in brunch bites and enjoying some fun activities throughout. Kiwi’s Party balloon art was a show-stopper with the kiddos and adults alike, while The Cupcake Bar supplied guests with a sugar-rushed, DIY caramel apple activity. And it’s not a good event without great vibes, Austin favorite DJ Cass&ra had everyone movin’ and groovin’ to festive tunes throughout. Thanks to Silver Cloud, attendees enjoyed using the #EastonMade2019 to snap fun pictures throughout the event and collected their souvenir photos on their way out.

It was time for Saturday brunch! Attendees quenched their thirst with libations provided by awesome sponsors, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Black Feather Whiskey, while Rambler Sparkling Water and Chameleon Cold-Brew kept everyone hydrated and caffeinated. Ranch Hand and Blenders & Bowls filled everyone up with indulgent bowls and mouthwatering brunch bites.

We were thrilled to triple our Maker’s Market this year, a very big thanks to all of our market vendors that showcased their local made goods! We were proud to see attendees support local businesses, while getting their holiday shopping done! Easton Made is an awesome time to get a kick-start on holiday shopping, and also the perfect opportunity to give back to the community. This year Easton Made proudly partnered with Mobile Loaves & Fishes Community First! Village, a non-profit organization that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the homeless. Attendees had the opportunity to make donations to the organization, write holiday cards for those in the village, and purchase some of the resident crafts. Easton Made was able to give back in multiple ways and guests were gifted a custom tote bag or tea towel, screen-printed onsite by Goodness Press, a screen-printing business offering ongoing support to the village.

A huge thank you to all vendors, sponsors and attendees that helped make Easton Made 2019 a huge success, we couldn’t make the magic happen without wonderful partners. J.Standard loves working with Eason Park, and this event was certainly a favorite. We are already making big plans for the 3rd annual Easton Made, we can’t wait to see you next year!

Easton Park hosted their annual Parkapalooza and the J.Standard team was thrilled to be part of the fun! Current and future residents brought their families, friends and furry friends to enjoy summer activities, local bites and great Texas music. This year, there was an extra sense of excitement as it was also the grand opening of the Amenity Center, a stunning resident space with a gym, pool, lounge, event space and gaming area.

It was a true hot, Texas, summer day but the summer temps didn’t stop attendees from experiencing all the Parkapalooza fun! Easton Park staff and volunteers greeted over 1,000 residents and guests under the giant, colorful balloon arch, created by the amazing Balloon Collective. Attendees beat the summer heat by touring the model homes and Amenity Center while sipping on ice-cold drinks provided by Sweet Leaf Tea, Chameleon Cold-Brew, Richard’s Rainwater and Jugo Juice. Kids went crazy for the deliciously, refreshing popsicles by Cold One Pops, while parents enjoyed chilled beverages from Sourced Craft Cocktails.

Each year Parkapalooza becomes bigger and better as it continues to deliver fun for all! Kids eagerly bounced from one activity to another with their parents in tow. Kiwi’s Party delighted the kids with amazing face painting and balloon making skills, Hula-Hoopers from Austin Oddities dazzled everyone with their stunning talent and pro-tips and Gonzo Viz had everyone awe struck as he colorfully captured the event with a flick of his paintbrush. Even the furry four-legged friends participated in the fun, happily splashing in the doggie pools, chasing after tennis balls and indulging in summer treats!

Picture7.png
Picture8.png

Burro Cheese Kitchen, East Side Kings and Ranch Hand satisfied appetites with delicious bites throughout the event! As everyone walked around munching on their food, they jammed out to music by Sun Radio and Dj Cass&ra. For those with a bit of a sweet tooth, Connor’s Creamery truck served up classic soft-serve ice cream and Fancy Fluff gave kids that extra sugar rush with cotton candy. As the sun started to set and the day slowly cooled everyone grabbed a lawn chair or blanket and laid out on the grass to enjoy some live music by Blue Water Highway and headliners Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. Rest assured, the kiddos had their own live music at the Kidapalooza stage with the Austin famous, Mr. Will.

We’re so happy that everyone had a wonderful time and cannot wait to start planning Parkapalooza 2020. Of course we couldn’t do it without incredible partners, sponsors, vendors and teammates! Texas Vibes, A Hill Country Wedding

Picture1.png

Katy and Sam share a special love for Austin, Texas, the city is so dear to them. After spending some time in Sam’s hometown of Chicago, while Katy completed her nursing degree, there was no doubt in their minds that the wedding would be in Austin! They excitedly counted down the days till their return to Austin and looked forward to sharing their love of each other with their closest friends and family, in the town they call “home”.

Staying true to the Texas vibe Katy and Sam picked the beautiful Contigo Ranch as their venue, deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country! This stunning ranch with its rolling hills and greenery was the perfect backdrop for Katy and Sam’s wedding. To ensure guests got into the Texas spirit, their family and wedding party stayed on property at the chic Hill Country casitas. The rustic feel of the casitas gave out- of-town guests a glimpse into what Texas is truly made of.

Picture2.png
Picture3.png

Katy and Sam selected an incredible roster of vendors for the big day, everyone did a top-notch job enhancing Contigo Ranch’s already gorgeous scenery. Posey kept the décor simple but classy with their flowing greenery and assorted white florals. Whim Rentals added to the feel with farmhouse tables, natural linens and classic china. Each element of the décor and details was perfectly Sam and Katy, guests loved the authentic vibes throughout.

Katy was a vision in her elegant, white, lace dress! The Adore team created the most natural, yet stunning hair and makeup for the blushing bride. She literally took everyone’s breath away, especially Sam’s, when she stepped onto the aisle. The personalized ceremony was filled with tears, laughter and memories. After celebrating Katy and Sam’s first kiss as a married couple, guests made their way to cocktail hour, enjoying Texas bites and libations.

As the sun set, Katy and Sam invited their guests for dinner where La Pera served a modern Mexican fusion meal that was so delicious guests were lining up for seconds and even thirds! Honky Tonk band Aaron McDonnell and the Neon Eagles helped guests dust off their dancing shoes with some Texas two-steppin’. There’s no doubt that guests were leaving this wedding with a true understanding of Texas culture! As if guests weren’t pumped enough, the one and only DJ Miles bumped up the party vibes with his mad skills and had guests dancing the night away.

Ending the night on a sweet note, Katy and Sam surprised guests with a late night snack of warm chocolate chip cookies and milk shooters. YUM! Nothing better than a late night snack after a night of overflowing celebrations! Guests captured the festivities of the night with a fun photo booth with props provided by Photo House Films. Katy and Sam spoiled their guests with endless wedding hospitality throughout the entire occasion.

HOT LUCK Food & Music Festival- 2019

Main.png

In it’s third year, Hot Luck Food Festival is quickly becoming a must to kick-off the Memorial Day weekend and J.Standard is proud to be a part of the festivities for our 3rd year!  Hot Luck has gained local and even national popularity because it manages to catch the “authentic” spirit of Austin: food, music and fun. Over the four-day holiday weekend, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy some perfect bites from chefs across the country, crafted libations and the best familiar tunes straight from their original vinyl, while taking place in various unique venues throughout Austin. Those that were ready for more, after indulging in all the fantastic food each day, headed downtown to experience the Austin nightlife and enjoy a variety of talented musicians at Mohawk, Antone’s and Barracuda.  A real “choose your own adventure” experience!

Hot Luck 2019 - Day 1: “The Giddy Up”

Day1.png
Day1-2.png

Hot Luck kicked off festivities on Thursday, May 23rd at Mohawk, an exclusive welcome party for all chefs, VIPs, and Whole Enchilada ticket holders. Attendees were greeted with the captivating smells of Canadian chef icon, Matty Matheson’s rendition of a Beef ‘n Cheddar sandwich. Matty collaborated with Austin’s very own Aaron Franklin (Franklin BBQ) to create the perfectly messy, yet delicious and oh-so filling sandwiches. Every nook and cranny of Mohawk was filled with chefs serving up his or her mouth-watering masterpieces. Austin’s Callie Speer of Holly Roller served up possibly the best homemade Chex mix ever made and helped cool down the crowds with her boozy infused snow cones and popsicles. Also helping represent ATX culinary scene was the one-and-only Yoshi Okai from Otoko, who sliced a giant Bluefin tuna to order, serving up insanely fresh sashimi. A line circled around the bar for Portland chef Elias Cairo of Olympia Provision’s charcuterie, which was well worth the wait. Despite the mesmerizing food, Robert Ellis held his own on stage with his signature white suit, piano skills and captivating tunes. The night was one for the books and a perfect preview of what was in store for the next days of the festival!

Hot Luck 2019 - Day 2: “Hi How Are You”

Day2.png
Day2-2.png

In true Texas Summer style, the Austin sun was shining bright for  “Hi, How are You”.  That didn’t stop attendees from standing in line outside Franklin BBQ, for the much anticipated famous smoked meats of Franklin BBQ.  Attendees made a beeline to Franklin BBQ brisket booth, which quickly “sold out”   Representing Portland was Gabriel Rucker with his cheeseburger flautas, which were a hit with the Tex-Mex capital locals. Newcomers Ivana and Yamila Maldonado from Cuyo made their Hot Luck debut with their family recipe, beef empanadas. Todd Duplechan and Jess Maher from Lenoir served up the most delectable mini crawfish dishes, which was worth the work one has to put into eating crawfish.  In between bites attendees stayed cool by visiting the many bar experiences throughout the event.  Libations and laughs flowed freely!

Hot Luck 2019 - Day 3: “Al Fuego”

Day3-2.png
Day3.png

“Al Fuego” is the grandest and most buzzed about food event during Hot Luck and for good reason.  Guests explored dishes cooked over open flames from renowned chefs from all over the nation. The Saturday event was held at The Wild Onion Ranch, a stunning, Texas-sized ranch, covered with so many chefs that attendees had a hard time deciding where to start first. Pizzeria Bianco’s served up their famous “Rosa Pizza”; who knew pistachios on pizza could be so amazing! Greg and Gabi Denton from Latin America steakhouse Ox in Portland, blew everyone’s minds with their rendition of a grilled cheese sandwich with chorizo and chimichurri. Salt and Time’s beef short rib pastrami gyro, Phillip Speer’s masa and lard whoopee pie, the list goes on and on and on……. Distilleries, breweries and wineries really brought their game to Al Fuego, serving up crafted creations within each of their interactive bars.  Nothing says Texas more than Hot Luck on a beautiful open ranch with fired up smokers, delicious bites and boozy experiences!

Hot Luck - Day 4: “Coupe de Grille”

Day4.png
Day4-2.png

What better way to end a fantastic food festival and kick off one’s “Sunday Funday” than with brunch, all while surrounded by beautiful classic hot rods? Closing out the festival was “Coupe de Grille” at Austin Speed Shop, allowing chefs to showcase their signature brunchy noshes. Mason Hereford from Turkey and Wolf put an upscale twist to the McDonald’s hash brown with caviar. Katie Button from Button & Co. Bagels served up her famous bagels with cream cheese and smoked black cod. Austin’s Alex Manley of Swedish Hill Bakery delighted attendees with her melt-in-your-mouth brisket filled croissants.  To beat the heat attendees flocked to Christina Tosi’s infamous Milk Bar truck, serving up cereal-milk, soft-serve, ice cream; of course with all the nostalgic toppings one could imagine.   Attendees washed down all the tasty food and quenched their thirst with Tito’s DIY Bloody Mary’s, cold brew, craft beer, ciders and wine.

If you haven’t been to Hot Luck, what are you waiting for? Start planning your 2020 Memorial Day weekend and come see why Hot Luck is quickly becoming known as the best food and music festival in Austin!

“Easton Made”

Local makers and crafters take over the new model homes in South Austin’s coolest neighborhood

Easton-53.jpg

This December, we were thrilled to help Easton Park with their inaugural Easton Made event, celebrating the debut of 6 beautiful new model homes. Easton Park is a new kind of master-planned community in Southeast Austin, shaped by its beautiful parks and a strong focus on community, so it was perfect synergy to have an event showcasing new homes filled with Austin’s best crafters and makers. Open to current residents and the public, the event featured local shops, DIY crafts, hands-on demos and more – just in time for the holiday season. We were thrilled to help the team bring their vision to life.

Easton-14.jpg

_A_C0444.jpg

As guests explored the model park, each home featured unique bites, bevies and a hands-on crafting activity, including:

  • Hygge Styling with Breathe Design Studio: Focused on the Danish principal of hygge—coziness, comfort, and well-being—this workshop inspired with new ideas to celebrate the simple things and increase hygge in your home during the holidays.

  • Santa Claus & Kids Craft Station: Kids created their own cute antler headbands, and then paused for photo ops with the big guy in the red suit.

  • Create a Custom Home Scent with Paper + Craft Pantry: Guests learned the basic benefits of a variety of organic essential oils before creating their own custom-blended dwelling mist to take home.

  • Print a Tote Bag with Industry Print Shop: Guests could choose from a variety of ink colors and screen designs to create their own DIY mono-printed bandana, kitchen towel, or frameable poster.

  • Holiday Gift Bags for your Furbaby with WoofGang Bakery: Attendees could up their gifting game by creating customized gift treat bags for their favorite pooch! Guests got to select from holiday treats, dried jerky treats, furry toys, and so much more!

  • Pot a Succulent with The Little Posey: Guests got floral ideas and inspiration, then created a holiday-themed potted succulent, mini wreath, or mini holiday arrangement to deck their halls.

  • Create a Custom Leather Keyfob with Noah Marion Quality Goods: Attendees designed and handcrafted a monogrammed keychain on undyed natural vegetable tanned leather using traditional tools and techniques.

  • Macrame Wall Art with Paper + Craft Pantry: Guests were guided through a color theory activity to build their own custom color palette, then used their shades to make a one-of-a-kind fiber wall hanging.

The programming spanned the available parks and green spaces surrounding the new model homes, with guests able to adopt a pet from Austin Pets Alive or take part in a mini session of “anywhere” yoga from Wanderlust Yoga - Austin, with Kaley Klasson, to stay balanced during the busy holiday season. There was even a Holiday Makers Market offering artwork, furniture and handcrafted items from vendors who are current Easton Park residents. Throughout the afternoon, guests were treated to a selection of local beverages by Austin Eastsiders and Cuvee Coffee along with fun vibes and holiday tunes by DJ Cass&ra.

At the end of the day, the first Easton Made was a huge success. More than 750 Austinites came out to tour the new model park and see what all the Easton Park buzz is about. We can’t wait to see what comes next for this cool neighborhood.

We want to give a big thank you to the Easton Park team and The Honor Roll (their awesome branding agency), as well as all of the vendors that made the details possible, including:

  • Nomad Sound

  • Marquee events and tents

  • Loot Vintage Rentals

  • Eastside Kings - Food Truck

  • Stacked Sliders - Food Truck

  • Austin Eastciders

  • Cuvee Coffee

  • Kenfield Golf Cars

"Tito’s Big Adventure" - An incentive trip for Tito's Handmade Vodka

hotelstcecilia_austinphotographer_lisahause_jstandardevents_023 copy.JPG

With the holiday season upon us, we can’t help but celebrate one of our most festive clients, Tito’s Handmade Vodka!

This past September we had the great pleasure of producing an incentive trip with the East Coast team and we had an absolute blast!  With Austin being the “home” of Tito’s Vodka  (and Tito himself!), we wanted to offer a true Austin experience for the East Coast Team.

As guests arrived, they checked into the Downtown Austin - JW Marriott and were greeted with Frito Pie and Tito’s All Time Favorite Cocktails! Once everyone was checked in the group walked to Moonshine for a true southern dinner, followed by some real fun at Kung Fu Saloon. After a “few” more drinks and a good night sleep, the team woke to an exciting trip to the Tito’s Handmade Vodka Distillery. They were greeted with Bloody Mary’s handcrafted by the amazing Licha’s Cantina team, along with a hearty selection of kolaches and donuts. The guests were invited by Tito himself to tour the distillery, taste test, and learn all about the process. Once the tour was complete the group had worked up quite the appetite and were welcomed with a delicious Mexican spread….and more cocktails of course, by Licha’s Cantina.

After a delicious feast of queso and tacos, the team enjoyed a little time to siesta, take a dip in the pool or explore Austin on their own! As the sun set the group walked to the very special Hotel Saint Cecilia for an authentic Texas Barbecue dinner from La Barbecue. The guests were greeted with a selection of signature Tito’s cocktails and enjoyed the beautiful outdoor space filled with antique styled candles, potted succulents, a lush lawn and perfect bistro furniture. The “dinner under the stars” menu included perfectly crafted Tito’s Vodka libations, a family style supper of La Barbecue and Voodoo Doughnuts. The night was just getting started! The group crossed the iconic Congress Bridge to an Austin favorite, Speakeasy. The group enjoyed countless libations with a perfect rooftop view of the Austin Skyline. Some guests got the full downtown experience an enjoyed late night bites from Best Wurst and Ropplo’s Pizza.

The next day was a “choose your own adventure” day in which attendees had the option of enjoying a JW Marriott Spa treatment, a JW Marriott rooftop pool day, or horseback riding and skeet shooting at Texas Trail Rides. Of course after everyone completed their activities, the team gathered at the pool for continued celebrations!

As their final evening together approached, everyone boarded the Austin Riverboat to watch the sunset over Lady Bird Lake while enjoying Texas Tunes from Lost Pines Band. Upon making it back to land, the attendees hopped around to their favorite Austin clients for some final fun.

All of the attendees raved about their Austin experience and immediately started working on their next goals so that they could win it again!

We always have a blast with the Tito’s Vodka family and look forward to the next collaboration.

Special thanks to everyone that made the experience come to life:

“Hawaii, TX Blog Post”: HOT LUCK Food & Music Festival - 2017

CarlyDiaz_HawaiiTexas_3 copy.jpg

SarahNatsumiMoore_Hawaii-1 copy.jpg

After a whirlwind few days enjoying food and music at Hot Luck’s events all across town, some might need a vacation from all the excitement. Luckily, there’s no better getaway than Hawaii, TX! Hot Luck took over East Side cocktail bar Weather Up and turned it into an Island destination (with that southwest spin, of course) for one night only. Chefs, VIPs and Whole Enchilada badge holders enjoyed this exclusive event, the perfect sendoff for an inaugural success.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Hawaiian event without a pig roast. Luckily San Antonio chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres of Mixtli Restaurant had the Hot Luck crowds covered. The duo spent over 12 hours roasting a pig to serve up for hungry attendees. Aaron Franklin shared his own personal take on the Hawaiian staple, Spam. Portland’s own Joshua McFadden, of Ava Gene's, was serving up bites, as was Ben Runkle of local butcher shop Salt & Time.

Flor de Caña and Sailor Jerry’s were mixing up rum punches and boozy cocktails, served in a YETI tumbler that attendees got to take home once they reached the bottom (which didn’t take long). And for those looking to get a little ink, Sailor Jerry’s had an artist on hand giving out free Sailor Jerry tattoos!

Spending a night amid tiki torches and Polynesian grooves was the perfect way to unwind after the excitement of a busy Hot Luck. Attendees, chefs, VIPs, staffers and volunteers all came out to make this inaugural festival a huge success. J. Standard is proud to be a part of a major new festival on the Austin calendar, and are excited to announce that work on Hot Luck 2018 has already begun! So stay hungry for details, which will be coming soon. See you next year!

“Al Fuego” : HOT LUCK Food & Music Festival - 2017

FriFairMarket-PG-23 copy.jpg

The sun was not shining the Saturday morning of Al Fuego. As staff and chefs arrived to begin setting up the largest, most ambitious event of Hot Luck, the gray sky turned black and quickly dumped a heavy rain on Wild Onion Ranch. But as the saying goes, the show must go on, and go on it did. Everyone worked hard to dry things off and get the grounds ready for this one of a kind food event. Soon the sun was shining and guests were in for some real treats!

The idea was simple: what if you went to the biggest and best gourmet tailgate party, featuring foods all cooked over a live fire. That’s what Al Fuego was, right in the heart of Austin on the sprawling Wild Onion Ranch grounds. Attendees could pick from over twenty-five grill and fire stations, from in-ground pits to twenty-foot smokers. Chefs from around Texas and the US showed up to char up some goodness.

Joshua Pinsky and Matthew Rudofker represented New York’s own Momofuku. Adam Perry Lang of APL Restaurant added some LA flavors into the mix. Top Chef’s Issaac Toups and wife Amanda Toups brought their cajun flair all the way from New Orleans. And the pacific northwest was well-represented by Andy Ricker of Pok Pok and Nong Poonsukwattana of Nong's Khao Man Gai, both of Portland. And the rockies were covered by Justin Brunson of Old Major in Denver.

CarlyDiaz_AlFuego_16 copy.jpg
SatAlFuego-PG-10 copy.jpg

Another Top Chef alum, John Tesar, came down from Dallas to bring the stylings of his Knife at The Highland to central Texas. Houstonites Chris Shepherd of Underbelly and Rebecca Masson of Fluff Bake Bar made the trek to Austin with their signature dishes. Our neighbors down I-35 in San Antonio, Steve McHugh from Cured and Laura Loomis of Two Bros BBQ Market, came out to feed hungry guests and friends.

Last but far from least, a veritable murderers row of unstoppable local Austin chefs cooked up their finest all day long. There was Tatsu Aikawa from the nationally praised new Kemuri Tatsu-Ya; Bryce Gilmore from mainstay Odd Duck; Laura Sawicki from East Side hot spot Launderette; Jesse Griffiths from butcher shop and restaurant Dai Due; and Todd Duplechan from the 04’s Lenoir. South Austin BBQ was going strong thanks to Miguel Vidal of Valentinas Tex Mex BBQ; the North Burnet ‘hood was covered by Philip Speer of Bonhomie and nearby Épicerie by Sarah McIntosh; Andrew Wiseheart brought Manor’s Contigo tastes to the grounds, while the ever-changing Rainey neighborhood was covered by Kevin Fink of Emmer and Rye and Stephen Bonin of Geraldine’s. As if that weren’t enough, attendees were treated to tastes from Chad Dolezal of The Hightower, Jason Stude from Boiler Nine and Michael Paley from Central Standard.

Let it be said: if ever you wanted to take a bite out of Austin in one go, Al Fuego was the place to do it.

Of course, any Central Texan knows it’s not just about the food; no festival is complete without a few drinks. Lone Star was on hand at nearly every corner of Wild Onion Ranch to help guests wash down all the delicious bites on offer. Duchman Winery, Charles & Charles and Charles Bieler, K. Vintners and Montinore Estate kept the wine flowing for everyone. Buffalo Trace was offering up whiskey concoctions, while Tequila Herradura, Deep Eddy Vodka and Martine Honeysuckle Liqueur rounded out the spirits. Austin Eastciders, Hops and Grain and Independence Brewing had their own cold drinks to share. Flor De Caña even tapped a very special twelve year old barrel-aged rum for tasting. And those seeking a bit of caffeine could find coffee slushies and special cold-brew cans made special for the occasion from Stumptown Coffee.

That extra jolt was perhaps necessary for some, as the Hot Luck party was just getting revved up. After Al Fuego, attendees could either check out Black Joe Lewis at Barracuda or be whisked away to Hawaii, TX at Weather Up. More on those events coming soon!

“HiLo” : HOT LUCK Food & Music Festival - 2017

FriFairMarket-PG-28 copy.jpg

Think back to the moment you fell in love with an idea. The first book that turned you into a reader, the film you saw that made you a multiplex regular, the song you heard and started plucking away at a six-string. Or maybe that meal you had as a child, your go-to regular for happiness; something that always filled you with warmth.

That's the feeling Hot Luck's HiLo event was all about, with world-class chefs sharing family recipes with attendees. The kinds of meals that everyone recalls, and probably still eats regularly, like pot roast, pork chops and donuts. Of course, the chefs added their own new spin on these household staples.

Nestled in Austin's vibrant East Side, Fair Market was transformed into the grounds for HiLo that Friday evening. DJ Dangit brought the love, spinning soulful tunes, the songs you never hear but always love, bringing a sense of nostalgia as attendees enjoyed bites and libations.

Some out of town friends brought flavorful dishes to share, including Joshua McFadden of Ava Gene's in Portland. Also from Portland was the team from Country Cat. And close neighbor Jason Dady from San Antonio came to share his family recipes.

Of course, Austin was in the house that night, serving up delectable tastes. Aaron Franklin brought the heat with his signature favors. Rene Ortiz of new East Side mainstay Launderette, just around the corner from Fair Market was cooking up goodness, too. Callie Speer of Holy Roller, David Norman of Easy Tiger and Fiore Tedesco of L’Oca d'Oro, Austin came out for the fun. Second Bar + Kitchen's David Bull was sharing some flavors, as were Jennifer Tucker of Jeffrey's and Olamaie's Michael Fojtasek. And Uchi's own James Beard Award winning chef Tyson Cole was on hand to share his favorite taste.

As for drinks, Lone Star Beer and Austin Eastciders were on hand to keep everyone cool, as well as cold ones from Big Bend Brewing Co., Hops and Grain, Independence, and Lagunitas. Oenophiles in attendance could enjoy glasses from Fall Creek Vineyards, Montinore Estate, Mundo Vino and Union Wine Co. And for something a bit stronger, Deep Eddy Vodka, Flor de Caña Rum, Martine Honeysuckle Liqueur and Tequila Herradura were offered up to guests.

As HiLo came to an end, guests that had a little more left in their tank headed over to Barrcuda where they indulged in tasty bites from sushi gangster himself, Yoshi of Otoko. And they danced the night away to funky tunes from the all girl band, Shonen Knife!

“Hi How Are You?” : HOT LUCK Food & Music Festival - 2017

ThursFranklins-PG-74 copy.jpg

J. Standard was proud to be a part of the inaugural Hot Luck Festival. Together with Team Feast, we were excited to bring this unique confluence of great food, killer music, and memorable gatherings to Austin, a town already known for hosting some of the best festivals in the world. Hot Luck is no exception; it’s sure to be one of the most anticipated events on the foodie calendar for years to come.

Festivities kicked off with “Hi How Are You?,” on Thursday, May 18. Hosted at Franklin Barbecue, this exclusive event for chefs, VIPs, and Whole Enchilada ticket holders was the place to be for food and fun as Hot Luck revved itself up.

Aaron Franklin’s eponymous barbecue joint was the perfect venue for the event, with the man himself cooking up some of his most famous meats. DJ Lord High Pockets was spinning original 45s to keep everyone grooving all night. Guests were also lucky enough to snag food from celebrity chef Roy Choi, who brought the flavors of his famous Los Angeles-based Kogi BBQ Truck to the heart of Austin. Sara Kramer, from Kismet, also in LA, came out swinging as well. Even filmmaker and “Chef” star Jon Favreau came out to enjoy the evening with everyone.

Also serving up goodness at “Hey How Are You?” was Dallas’ own Daniel Vaughn of Full Custom Gospel BBQ and Ivan Orkin of Ivan Ramen from New York. Portland was well represented by Olympia Provisions’ Elias Cairo and Peter Cho, of Han Oak fame. Also hailing from the Beaver State, Tillamook was on hand serving up dairy delights for all.

And what’s a party without a few libations? Everyone was keeping cool with cans of Lone Star Beer and Austin Eastciders. For the oenophiles in the attendance, Union Wine Co., Montinore Estate and Hope Family Wines provided plenty of tasty sips. Buffalo Trace was serving up whiskey slushies, deliciously refreshing on a spring evening in Texas.

“Hi How Are You?” was an incredible event in its own right, but Hot Luck 2017 was just getting started. With everyone well fed, having forged new friendships and made new memories, there was just enough time to rest up before the rest of this all-star food weekend really got going. More on that in our next post!

2017 Austin Addy Awards

For the third year in a row, J.STANDARD had the pleasure of working with the AUSTIN AD FED to produce the 2017 Addy Awards.  Even amid the talented world of event production, it is rare to bring together so much creative talent into one room.

This year’s theme, “ology”, was a show for those who know. From anthropology to zoology, the ancient Greeks coined the term –ology to represent knowledge in any given field. As guests arrived at the HILTON AUSTIN, they could wander, explore, and admire The Work Displays submitted by contestants, printed by API, and installed by XTREME XHIBITS. At the same time, HOOT BOOTH provided a hashtag photo printer to commemorate the moment while DJ GATSBY provided tunes as guests worked the room.

If you’ve never been to the Addy Awards, imagine the Oscars – glamorous, impressive, inspiring. SHERRY MATTHEWS, the “directors” of the entire awards program, and WHITE HAT, the “assistant directors” of the program, collaborated closely to bring this beautiful vision to life, meanwhile J.P.L. – Job Propulsion Labs & TKO Advertising created the awards presentation script, theme, and video. Lights and AV by ATOMIC PICNIC added to the impressive show.

From Southwest Airlines to Chipotle to the Air Force, the impressive ads displayed the amazing array of talent from various agencies for multiple brands. Once the show ended, SWIMMING WITH BEARS via BLACK FRET performed.

Branded decor from various sponsors adorned each table, including delectable, gold dusted macarons from POLKADOTS BAKERY. And of course, the show couldn’t have run without the help of the volunteers from E4 Youth Group and Ad2 Student Members. With inspiration from the ancient Greeks and the genius of our sponsors, vendors, and volunteers, the 2017 Austin Addy Awards was a great celebration of the best creatives in the industry!

Second Annual “Call to Loyalty” presented by Mattersight

After a proper Texas welcome party, Mattersight’s 2nd annual “Call to Loyalty” ensued. In essence, this event connects Mattersight to existing and potential clients while sharing their mission of helping brands to have better chemistry with customers. They are experts in analytics and insights; thus, we utilized their consumer insights to enrich the event experience with guest speakers, cutting-edge information, and inspiration everywhere!

Now, let’s be clear – Call to Loyalty is not your typical conference. To start, the venue HOTEL VAN ZANDT is a boutique hotel located in the Rainey Street Historic District, where the intimate feel of the bungalow-esque bars and restaurants offers an authentic Austin experience. Within the conference, Dj Miles of TEXAS PRO DJ created a contagious energy and fun for the attendees.

As a welcoming gift, each attendee received a custom box of chocolates from MAGGIE LOUISE CONFECTIONS. These decadent delights were creatively crafted into shapes like the state of Texas and cacti. Meanwhile, ROSEHIP FLORA provided actual cacti and succulents alongside branded materials and swag by THE HONOR ROLL, adding a fun Texas touch throughout the room.

Mattersight even featured a special panel consisting of the CEO’s from FAVOR, RIDE AUSTIN, and BUILD-A-SIGN. These Austin based success stories were the ultimate instance of “loyalty” in keeping it local! FAVOR team members also surprised the audience with delicious sweets from another Austin-born company, TIFF’S TREATS.   On stage during the panel, the fun gold chairs from MARQUEE were striking!

When the last day seemed over, the ballroom doors suddenly swung open, and a mariachi ensemble began to serenade attendees! During the live performance by MARIACHI ESTRELLA, there was an abundance of margaritas, Mexican beers, candy, cookies, and even a piñata for the fiesta themed departure.

This conference was not simply an event, but a production. We could not have produced this show without the incredibly sharp ATEX who provided stunning lighting, a precise program, and meticulously detailed audio/video. While conferences can sometimes be boring, Mattersight’s 2nd annual “Call to Loyalty” was quite the opposite! Photos by Lisa Hause and Jerry Hayes photography capture the essence of this spirited celebration of knowledge, success, and loyalty below.

2nd Annual “Call to Loyalty” presented by Mattersight – Welcome Party!

While 2017 is shaping up to be an exciting, event filled year, we love reflecting on our favorites of 2016. In particular, Mattersight’s 2nd Annual “Call to Loyalty” attracted over 200 attendees from all over the US. To kick off the summit, we knew a party was a must to truly welcome guests with Texas hospitality and iconic Austin favorites.

What better way to say welcome than with southern favorites like grilled corn bread with bacon jam? CONTIGO provided these tasty arrival bites as guests filed into the CONTAINER BAR. Located in Rainey Historic district, this unique venue is literally composed of 7 stacked shipping containers. To add a Texas flare, ROSEHIP FLORA provided creative cacti and succulents, daintily dispersed throughout the venue, while THE HONOR ROLL designed branded décor to showcase Austin’s personality.

For the main course, LA BARBECUE catered the tender, mouth-watering BBQ that was so tasty, even the vegetarians were tempted to try it. Here’s a little known secret: this popular and delicious Austin favorite is best served alongside live music. Luckily, Austin icon and Texas country music performer, DALE WATSON provided a live music performance!

Seeing as Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, music was an appropriate theme for Mattersight’s welcome party. As Dale Watson serenaded the audience under the twinkling Texas skyline, the cutest cupcake girls from THE CUPCAKE BAR cruised around the party, offering bite-sized cupcakes that even the country legend himself couldn’t resist.

While we didn’t want the night to end, attendees began to make their last stops at the photo booth by HOOT BOOTH, where they were prompted to post photos and promote the event with #CALL2LOYALTY.  More details on the summit at Hotel Van Zandt are coming to the blog soon, so be on the look out!

A special thanks goes out to each and every one of our vendors. We’re so grateful Dale Watson was able to join us and provide some fun Texas entertainment! And of course, thanks to Lisa Hause and Jerry Hayes photography as well as STORY CRAFT videography for helping us capture the moment.

A Wedding in Style at Laguna Gloria

Laurel Pantin was born and raised in Austin, TX. She spent much of her childhood making memories at LAGUNA GLORIA and holds it close to her heart. There was no other place in the world where she would rather spend her wedding day. This says a lot since Laurel has traveled the world and even lived in South Africa with her then fiancé, Justin. Laurel is now a super fabulous fashion stylist and editor living in New York City!

Laguna Gloria is the perfect spot to hold an outside ceremony and reception. The venue is located right next to the Colorado river and lush with green scenery. Laurel and Justin said their vows under a white gazebo decorated with gorgeous flowers designed by POLLEN FLORAL ART. Laurel’s pair of antique diamond earrings from BELL AND BIRD were the perfect accessory to her white dress! The ceremony was simple, elegant, and expressed the romance shared between the love birds!

CAMERA TALK photographed Laurel and Justin on the many trails found at Laguna Gloria surrounded by picturesque natural grounds. While the newlyweds were off taking photos, guests enjoyed cocktail hour with yummy small bites by PINK AVOCADO and could grab a snow cone to cool off! Laguna Gloria is one of our favorite places to get lost in. The contemporary art, lakeside views, and tunnels formed by trees will keep guest entertained while each member of your family insists they have a picture with you in your wedding dress!

Of course, the fashion extraordinaire had several crowd pleasing outfit changes! Laurel modeled an exquisite gold gown and a sparkling silver gown for the reception. We were in awe of the blushing bride as she twirled in her dresses!

PINK AVOCADO made a delicious feast to start off the night! Laurel and Justin’s family and friends were such a fun and exciting group. The crowd was filled with the most stunning folks from around the globe! Everyone shook their tail feather and danced the night away celebrating the marriage of these two wonderful people.

Laurel and Justin’s wedding was a truly magical day filled with style, dancing, laughter, and lots of celebratory libations! Couture Details wishes the newlyweds a life full of love and many more adventures together!

Relish on all the unique details of this wedding captured by CAMERA TALK and YETI MAN below!  Thank you to the talented vendors who each played a huge role in this special occasion.

A Flowery Spring Wedding

Sharon and Greg first met in the Austin Jewish Community where the two bonded over shared Jewish traditions and their love for Austin. The couple loved celebrating these connections and quickly fell head over hills for each other. Sharon’s family has been long time members of the LADY BIRD JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER. The couple knew there was no other place they would rather become Mr. and Mrs. Brener than surrounded by the beautiful fields of green!

Sharon and Greg planned for an outside wedding at the Family Garden’s pavilion. Due to potential afternoon showers, we made a last minute decision to have the ceremony inside. Our team and wonderful vendors were able to change plans with ease and create a beautiful space inside the white stones of the Visitor’s Gallery. The Wildflower Center is a gorgeous venue inside and out! The Chuppah looked absolutely stunning decorated with ROSEHIP FLORA’S flower design. The beaming bride walked down the aisle to the lovely string music of STRINGS ATTACHED. The breaking of the glass signified the conclusion of the ceremony as guests shouted Mazel Tov and headed to cocktail hour!

The weather cleared up just in time for a colorful sunset. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour with refreshing drinks and live music by BUZZ AND THE BLUE CATS in the Display Gardens. Dinner and dancing took place under the stars to make for a magical night. Post cards with Sharon and Greg’s photos covered the tables for friends and family to write their well wishes on!

CONTIGO served a tasty dinner and kept the party going with thirst-quenching his and her craft cocktails. Not only is their food delicious, but their place-setting and buffet setup is picturesque. Dessert lovers had the night of their lives with mini cupcakes baked by MICHELLE’S PATISSERIE and creamy gelato from DOLCE NEVE! If that doesn’t take the cake, each guest got to take home a small jar of local honey!

The Couture Details team wishes Sharon and Greg a happily ever after! See the details of their magical day captured by RYAN GREEN PHOTOGRAPHY below and check out the stationary create by the bride herself!

Thanks to an amazing group of vendors who were able to roll with the last minute rain decisions flawlessly!

A Dreamy Spring Wedding at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Amanda and Matt were both born and raised in Texas before moving to Manhattan to pursue their careers in the creative industry. Just like all of us Texans, they remain true to their southern roots and knew they had to say their vowels in the Lone Star State. There is nothing Texans love more than bluebonnets and breakfast tacos. These two ingredients made Amanda and Matt’s wedding day one to remember!

The LADY BIRD JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER is a dreamy venue for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. Not to mention the wildflower fields are the perfect place for wedding portraits. Amanda and Matt said their I do’s surrounded by family, friends, and larger than life trees in the Family Garden Lawn. ROSEHIP FLORA fashioned the most gorgeous flower arrangement on the wood altar. We were in awe of the white rose floral design. Pictures by LEAH MUSE PHOTOGRAPHY capture the beauty of Amanda and Matt’s outdoor ceremony.

Wedding guests were guided through bluebonnets and across a gorgeous bridge to cocktail hour in the Display Gardens. The newlyweds were busy taking pictures as the sun started to fall on the colorful landscape. Refreshing drinks and tunes by AARON MCDONNELL AND THE NEON EAGLES kept the guests entertained! Amanda and Matt’s signature drinks included a His and Her Margarita. Matt chose a Mezcal margarita and Amanda went with the traditional Tequila margarita. The thoughtful couple even made custom koozies so their guests could keep their drinks cold!

Dinner and dancing took place in the beautiful courtyard. The tables looked absolutely lovely decorated with greenery and candles. CONTIGO cooked up a delicious farm fresh dinner and dessert. The highlight of the night was the funnel cake station! We loved this unique dessert idea! After a night of two-steeping to the country band, Contigo served breakfast tacos to end the wedding with a bang. Thank you for the yummy eats Contigo!

Amanda and Matt’s wedding day was all about the details! We loved helping them create their dream wedding. We wish you two all the happiness!

Mattersight's Sales Kick Off

Sales Kick Offs are vital for companies in kicking off the year with motivation, teamwork and innovative tools to achieve the company’s annual goals and vision!  Couture Details Events knew we had to plan a fun and inviting event when Mattersight asked us to plan and execute their 2016 Sales Kick Off.

We wanted to make sure Mattersight’s team was out of the city and away from distractions to make the most out of their SKO. We booked the HYATT REGENCY LOST PINES RESORT AND SPA, which is the perfect distance from the airport for those out-of-towners. As SKO attendees arrived at the resort, they were greeted with a welcome bag of yummy snacks, their lanyard, and agenda.

Prior to the SKO, employees were required to take a personality test, which is a key component of Mattersight’s product. The test reveals each person as one of five personalities. Everyone’s lanyard was a different color indicating personality type.

The Sales Kick Off started with a few breakout sessions to begin brainstorming sales strategies. Once the short sessions ended, everyone headed from the meeting rooms to the Texas Margarita competition! After a long day of traveling and working, it’s nice to have some friendly competition. Each team had one person from each personality group. This is a fantastic way to learn how to work with people who have a different thought process than your own. The team who crafted the tastiest Margarita won bragging rights for the rest of the SKO!

Once the winning team was crowned 2016 Margarita Mixology Champion, everyone was hungry for dinner. Many of the attendees were visiting from the Mattersight headquarters in Chicago, therefore, a BBQ feast was a must. The first night of the SKO ended with fireside chats, s’mores, and acoustic guitar tunes by the talented DAVEY SCHRANK. Mattersight’s very own Alexandra Yndo got to show off her vocals as her coworkers danced the night away! As each person returned to their room, they were surprised to find a gift box waiting for them. The boxes held a book, treat, and of course a hangover kit carefully curated by Couture Details Events!

The next day was full of meetings and brainstorming sessions, but it could not start without breakfast tacos! If you’re wondering – yes, the hangover kits were put to good use and worked like a charm! Mattersight worked together throughtout the day to accomplish their planning goals for the coming year. Planning meetings can be long and tiring, but luckily we had the opportunity to add some humor to brighten up the room. On each table there were several potted succulents each holding a card with a different chemistry joke that was sure to make you chuckle!

Q: What did the scientist say when he found 2 isotopes of helium?

A: HeHe

Mattersight celebrated with a Texas themed dinner and clinked their glasses to an enjoyable, successful SKO! As the team was at dinner, they received an itunes download of Dale Watson’s latest album in their inbox. Dale Watson will be preforming at Mattersight’s 2016 Call to Loyalty this fall! Everyone can't wait to sing along with the country legend!

The next morning, Mattersight had their final meetings and headed back home! We look forward to seeing the future success of this innovative company!

As we love to mention, we have the absolute best clients and Mattersight is one of them! We want to give them huge thank you for choosing Couture Details Events to be a part of their team!
